PRESS RELEASE: FEBRUARY 17, 2026

Bruno and Davila named 2026 Tindall Scholarship recipients

St. Johns River State College redshirt sophomore Alex Bruno and catcher Jonathan Davila were named the 2026 recipients of the John C. Tindall Endowed Scholarship. The award is presented each year to individuals for demonstrating exemplary work ethic, leadership, and quality performance in the classroom and on the baseball field.

Bruno, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a graduate of Leadership Christian Academy. He is a business management major with a 3.32 GPA. Davila, from Jacksonville, is a graduate of Foundation Academy. He is a sports management major with a 2.81 GPA.

According to Jones, Bruno and Davila exemplify the term student-athlete. “They are truly models of what we want in Viking baseball players,” Jones said. “These two young men have worked extremely hard and developed into outstanding college baseball players. But they’ve both overcome many obstacles to become not only the best baseball players they can be, but two of the finest young men I’ve ever coached.”

The scholarship was established in 2011 in honor of former coach John Tindall, who devoted 30 years to coaching the Vikings through 591 wins and nine Region VIII tournament appearances, placing him in the nation’s top 10 for career wins at the time of his retirement in 1997.

SJR State is home to one of the first baseball teams within the Florida College system. In 1961, the Vikings took the field for the first time and have since dedicated the past 65 years to building a solid reputation for producing superior student-athletes.
