Public Record Requests

PUBLIC RECORDS REQUESTS

Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes addresses Public Records. It is the policy of the State of Florida that all state, county, and municipal records are open for personal inspection and copying by any person. Providing access to public records is a duty of each agency.

As a public agency of the state of Florida, SJR State College is required to provide public records in accordance with Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes. The College has developed procedures for processing public records requests. Fees and/or service charges may apply.

Here is some additional guidance regarding public record requests:

  • A person may make a public record request to any employee of the College.
  • Requests do not have to be in writing. A person requesting a public record from SJR State College does not have to give his/her name, nor do they have to explain the reason for the requested information. However, contact information may be necessary in order to notify the person when or if the records are available and if there will be a charge for them.
  • Employees who receive a public record request can inform the requestor that SJR State College complies with Public Record Requests in accordance with Florida Statutes; and, that their request will be forwarded to the appropriate College personnel to process their request:
    • Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., J.D., Ph.D., Vice President for Legal Affairs/General Counsel, or his designee; or,
    • Charles Romer, Director of Human Resources, Title IX Coordinator, Equity Officer, or his designee.
  • The College reserves the right to provide any access to public records within a reasonable amount of time, under reasonable conditions and under supervision by a custodian of the public record:
    • Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., J.D., Ph.D., Vice President for Legal Affairs/General Counsel, or his designee; or,
    • Charles Romer, Director of Human Resources, Title IX Coordinator, Equity Officer, or his designee.
  • In accordance with College Procedure #3.19 and Florida Statute 119, there may be a cost for producing a public record request. If there is a cost, the College will notify the person requesting the records in advance.
