Paige Draper (2023)

SJR State honors one of its own in an alumni salute, celebrating the career milestones, community contributions and personal reflections of those who began their collegiate journey as SJR State Vikings.

PAIGE, WHAT WAS YOUR CAREER BEFORE ENROLLING AT SJR STATE?
A travel and expense administrator, still in a similar position but now with a company that has vast opportunities for professional development.

WHY A CAREER CHANGE?
More advancement opportunities, increased work-life balance, and better compensation.

WHERE ARE YOU WORKING NOW?
I’ve just joined one of the world’s leading software companies!

HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR DEGREE HAS AIDED YOU IN THIS JOB?
I feel the degree has given me an edge against the competition and empowers me to seek higher benefits and compensation.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE BUSINESS AS A CAREER?
I chose the Organizational Management BAS program because it grants such a wide breadth of skills that are applicable in a myriad of industries.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT SJR STATE’S BAS PROGRAM?
I enjoyed the capstone class, not just because it was the final class (yay!) but the culmination of all the work done throughout the program. I could really use all my courses in this class, and it was clear how valuable they all are.

WHAT WAS THE MOST VALUABLE THING YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF AS A STUDENT?
That my multitasking and time management skills are extraordinary. This program requires a lot of time and effort, no doubt. Completing this degree while juggling my family, work, and social lives tested me, but I now know that it can be done with the right mindset.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE CONSIDERING THE PROGRAM?
If you’re considering the program, you are already equipped to do it. Take it one class at a time if you must, but just go for it. The professors are so helpful, and understanding, and genuinely want to see you succeed.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?
I see myself advancing to a leadership role within the travel and expense industry. I have the skills and will gather the experience needed along the way to become a great leader, and even if it’s outside of my current industry I know I’ll be successful!
