SJR State holds radiologic technology pinning ceremony

St. Johns River State College faculty, administration and staff recently held a pinning ceremony to honor Radiologic Technology graduates. The students were each presented with a special pin during the ceremony, recognizing their accomplishments in completing the program and becoming eligible to join the profession of radiologic technologists.

Program director Christy Mauel, congratulated graduates: Justin Beladi, Janet Bell, Joshua Bonilla, Shelby Creter, Ryan Crouse, Sarah Ginter, Amanda Gomez, Sarah Hughes, Deshawn Jackson, Shanel Mayfarth, Nora Medina-Rodriguez, Dustin Noll, Ethan Reyes, Makinley Schmidt, Ivy Smith-Treadwell, Alexis Sweat, Kaelynn Walsh and Liberty Wheeler.

During the ceremony, Amanda Gomez was presented with the Daniel Maj Scholarship for achieving the highest GPA. The scholarship was created to honor Maj, a former Flagler radiologic supervisor and SJR State alumnus who passed away in 2014. The scholarship is presented each year to the student who exhibits the highest performance scores.

Additional awards were presented for excellence. Nora Median-Rodriguez received the clinical award, Deshawn Jackson and Janet Bell received the awards for patient care, Amanda Gomez received the award for academic excellence.

The Associate in Science degree program prepares students for careers as radiologic technologists. Graduates will be eligible to take the National Certification Examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. ARRT certification is recognized throughout the country, and successful completion of the exam allows students to become licensed by the State of Florida to practice radiography.

SJR State’s Radiologic Technology program is offered on the St. Augustine campus. Specific prerequisites and requirements apply and must be completed prior to the first day of the application period. Applications for the fall semester are available online through May 15 at https://www.sjrstate.edu/radiologic.

SJR State’s newest A.S. degree program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography on the Orange Park Campus will accept applications online through May 15 at https://www.sjrstate.edu/sonography.
