  STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

From GED to Degree at SJR State College-Sylvia Moody

MEET SYLVIA.

Sylvia Moody

Sylvia is a Practical Nursing student at SJR State. She is pictured in our state-of-the-art classroom listening for a heartbeat on one of the program’s computer-driven manikins. Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing program, graduates are eligible to apply for the State Board Examination for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN).

WHY DID YOU SELECT SJR STATE FOR YOUR TRAINING?
After moving to Palatka from Columbus, Ohio, I heard great things about SJR State from day one.  I decided to attend the Adult Education program here at SJR State to earn my GED.  I had such a fantastic experience in the adult education program, that I decided I wanted to pursue my nursing career at SJR State as well.

CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY WITH THE ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM AND EARNING YOUR GED?
I could not have asked for a better experience in the Adult Education program!  My teachers were there to help me, challenge me, and celebrate the victories with me every step of the way.  They were there to help me through my greatest academic struggles, and were there to cheer me on at graduation.  I would highly recommend the program to anyone wanting to go back to school to earn their GED.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF DURING THIS JOURNEY?
I have learned that I have more inner strength to push forward toward my goal of becoming a nurse, and becoming the person I'm meant to be.  I have learned how to stay positive and to remind myself that I can really achieve anything I set my mind to. I believe that with a positive state of mind, there are no limits on what you can do.  Once you realize that, you're practically invincible!

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE TO OTHERS WHO MAY BE CONSIDERING ENROLLING?
Go for it!  If you have a dream, pursue it, and never give up on it.  Work hard, and strive to make your dream a reality.

You, too, can earn your GED! Start anytime of the year – whenever it is convenient for you.
