Please be aware that paying for an exam does not register you to take that exam. You must also contact the Testing Center to schedule an appointment and provide the payment receipt number.

The Testing center will reschedule a missed appointment, when possible.

We provide tests, national credit-by-exam testing programs, and a number of workforce testing options. We also provide a proctoring service for distance learning programs from other institutions, and other assessments conducive to an individuals' overall success; academically, personally and professionally.

To take any exam, please arrive 20 minutes before your appointment and be sure to have the correct number of identifications required for your exam. (Ex. PERT Testers require one form of ID/ BAT Testers require two forms of ID)

The primary ID must be an original, current, valid and contain your photograph and signature. The secondary must contain your signature. Photo or photocopies of an ID are unacceptable!

If you are unsure about identification acceptance, contact the Testing Center prior to your arrival.

These items are prohibited, please secure them in your vehicle or place them in one of the lockers available at the testing center. Thank you!

St. Johns River State College has two Pearson VUE authorized test centers, one on the Palatka Campus and the other on the Orange Park Campus. Interested candidates must schedule through the Pearson VUE home page: Please follow the recommendations for scheduling your particular test as listed on the Pearson VUE website. Please call 386-312-4228 if you have any questions.

The Basic Abilities Test (BAT) is a prerequisite for the Law Enforcement (LE) and Correction Officer (CO) Academies. This exam will be available at PearsonVue Testing Centers only.

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is run by CollegeBoard; an independent testing company. Many colleges and universities recognize and honor comprehensive subject knowledge acquired through independent or prior study, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships. The CLEP catalog has 30+ qualifying exams.

If you are an SJR State student who is interested in taking a CLEP, you should contact Academic Advising (386-312-4035) to discuss earning credit through CLEP exams and if the credit earned from a particular exam will apply to your degree. CLEP is administered by appointment on Monday and Wednesday on the Palatka Campus, and Monday and Tuesday on the Orange Park Campus. There is a $20 proctor fee associated with each exam attempt. Test candidates must also purchase a CLEP exam through and are required to bring a printed copy of the exam registration ticket to the testing appointment.

Distance Learning

Select SJR State distance learning course require an on – campus final exam. This will be noted in the course syllabus, along with the final exam dates. If your course falls in this category, you must register for your exam using RegisterBlast.

The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) satisfies the assessment requirement of the Civic Literacy Competency for Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Baccalaureate students in the Florida College System. Civic literacy requirements are determined by a student’s degree program and catalog year. Please be aware, this exam does not satisfy civic literacy requirements for students in a catalog year prior to fall 2021. Please contact Advising with any questions regarding the civic literacy requirements for your degree program and catalog year.

The Florida Civic Literacy Exam includes 80 multiple-choice questions and covers four domains with 20 questions in each section.

The four domains assessed, and their competency areas include:

American Democracy
Understanding of the basic principles and practices of American democracy and how they are applied in our republican form of government.

United States Constitution
An understanding of the United States Constitution and its application.

Founding Documents
Knowledge of the founding documents and how they have shaped the nature and functions of our institutions of self-government.

Landmark Impact on Law and Society
An understanding of landmark Supreme Court cases, landmark legislation and landmark executive actions and their impact on law and society.

The Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) has provided sample test materials to orient faculty and students to the types of questions and content covered on the Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE).

If you would like to familiarize yourself with the testing platform, please use the instructions below to navigate through the online Florida Civic Literacy Exam Sample Items.

  1. Navigate to the FCLE Testing website
  2. Select "Practice Tests" under the "Prepare Your Student" section.
  3. Click the green "Sign in" Button
  4. Select "30" in the drop-down menu for "Student Grade Level."
  5. Under the "Florida Civic Literacy Exam" section in orange, select the "Start Florida Civic Literacy Exam Sample Test"
  6. Choose your settings and click the green "Select" button.
  7. Click the green "Begin Test Now" button.
  8. You will now be placed into a practice test session.
  9. Get familiar with the testing platform by navigating through the session and exploring the available tools.
  10. This Sample Test is not scored. To review the correct answers to the sample items, please use the Florida Civic Literacy Exam Sample Items document.

The FCLE passing score is 48 out of 80 (60%).

The FCLE is an untimed assessment and takes approximately 1 hours and 30 minutes to complete.

It is strongly recommended that students be currently enrolled or have earned credit in AMH 2020 US History since 1877 or POS 1041 US Federal Government prior to attempting the FCLE. If there are questions regarding whether this exam is required for a particular student and/or degree program, please review Degree Works in the MySJRState student portal and contact an advisor or email .

Retesting requires a 30-day waiting period. If there are questions regarding this policy, please contact the Testing Center at or call 386-312-4228. To submit a request to waive the retest waiting period, email the FCLE Retake Request form to . You must have approval to waive the retest waiting period prior to scheduling any retest attempt within 30 days of your last attempt.

If you are taking the Florida Civic Literacy Exam to meet a graduation requirement for your degree program, you must pass this exam no later than the last day of the semester in which you intend to graduate. The Testing Center recommends scheduling a testing appointment date as soon as possible and at least three weeks prior to the end of the semester to allow for the opportunity to retest if you do not pass on your first attempt.

If you are a student from another institution, needing to complete your Florida Civic Literacy Exam at our Testing Center, a $25.00 proctoring fee is required to complete your exam at St. Johns River State College. Payment can be made by clicking the green “Test Fee Payment” button. Select “Proctored Exams” and enter your information. A receipt will be emailed to you shortly after you submit your payment. Next, contact our main office at 386-312-4228 so you may be scheduled.

GED Testing Schedule

The General Education Development (GED) Test is made up of 4 subjects, broken onto separate exams. Candidates do not have to take all of the exams at once.

GED testing is available on the Palatka Campus: Thursday and Friday. Visit for more information and to schedule testing appointments.

HESI A2 Testing

The HESI Admission Assessment is one pathway for applicants to meet the admissions requirements for the SJR State Nursing program. The test is comprised of nine sections, of those nine sections SJR State requires scores for Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, General Knowledge and Math. Other nursing programs may require scores from additional sections; therefore, it is recommended that a student completes all of the sections.

To register to take this test on a St. Johns River State College campus:

1. Use the Test Fee Payment button on this page to pay the test fee of $75 for the HESI. This fee is non-refundable and may be used for only one test session.

To register to take this test on a St. Johns River State College campus:

3. Go to and create an Evolve account, you will need an Evolve username and password in order to take the test and receive your results.

4. On your test day, bring a picture ID and your Evolve username and password to the testing site.

5. The Test Proctor will provide the access code for the exam at that time.

6. You may reschedule the exam if you need to by contacting the Testing Center.

7. You must wait at least 30 days between test sessions.

ParaProfessional Exam from Educational Testing Service (ETS)

We are currently administering this assessment until further notice. ETS will transition this assessment to Prometric Testing Centers this year.

The ParaPro Assessment measures the skills and knowledge in reading, writing and math possessed by prospective and practicing educational assistants and paraprofessionals. It also measures the ability to apply skills and knowledge when assisting in a classroom. It was designed to satisfy the requirements of the Federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act.

Candidates have 2½ hours to complete the test. The exam consists of 90 multiple choice questions, approximately two-thirds of which focus on basic skill and knowledge. The remaining questions relate to applying skills in the classroom. All questions are in English.

To take this exam:

  1. Use the Test Fee Payment button on this page to pay the test fee of $75 for the ETS ParaProfessional exam. This fee is non-refundable.
  2. Contact the Testing Center at the Palatka Campus (386-312-4228) or the Orange Park Campus (904-276-6793) and make an appointment for the exam, be sure to have your receipt number at hand.
  3. Arrive at your testing location at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment; PAC Bldg. T, Rm 113 or OPC Bldg. A, One Stop Center.
  4. The ParaPro Assessment may be taken once every 28 days, not including the initial test date. If the retake policy is violated, the test taker's score will be canceled, and the test fee will not be refunded.

ETS: Requests for Accommodations

The Postsecondary Educational Readiness Test is the recommended placement test for Florida colleges. These test scores assist counselors and advisors in making the best possible initial placement recommendations for student success. Students are responsible for the enrollment selections that they make, so excellent initial placement recommendations are important.

First time in college non-exempt students who intend to enroll in college credit classes must have test scores less than two years old.

According to Florida Senate Bill 1720, students may be exempt from placement testing under certain conditions.

You are exempt if you:

  • Entered Florida public high school or charter school during the 2003-2004 academic year or after;
  • Remained within the public high school system or charter schools during your entire high school academic career and graduated from a Florida public high school or charter school 2007 or after with a standard diploma;
  • Are a member of the military on active duty

You are not exempt if you:

  • Entered high school prior to 2003-2004;
  • Graduated from the private sector;
  • Graduated from home school;
  • Earned high school degree out of state; or
  • Earned a GED

Please contact the Testing Center to discuss PERT testing options, schedule an appointment to test on campus, or request to take the PERT through remote proctoring. To be eligible to take the PERT through remote proctoring, you must have an SJR State student ID number and a fully processed application. If your application has not been fully processed, you are still able to test on campus. For remote testing or to schedule an appointment on the Palatka or St. Augustine Campuses, call 386-312-4228. All students, including exempt students are welcome to test. Those students who have completed an application may take the test one time. The test may be retaken after 48 hours, but not more than three times in a 12-month period. All retakes of any section require a $20 fee to be paid in advance.

Beginning in Fall 2022, SJR State will also accept alternative methods for course placement into college-level communication and computation with qualifying scores on approved alternative assessments and/or a qualifying grade in approved high school coursework for individuals with an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher as outlined in the SJR State Catalog/Student Handbook. The 2022 – 2023 Catalog/Student Handbook will be the first to include information regarding alternative methods for placement.

Alternative assessments which may be used for college-level course placement are:

  • PreACT
  • General Education Development (GED) Test
  • Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC)
  • High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)
  • Florida End-of-Course Assessments (Algebra 1 and Geometry)

Requests for testing accommodations must be made well in advance of your anticipated testing date. Please request testing accommodations when scheduling the testing appointment. If you are an SJR State student, approval of testing accommodations are verified with the Students with Disabilities Coordinators and additional documentation is not typically required. If you are not an SJR State student, documentation must be submitted for approval for requested testing accommodations.

Proctor Services
The St. Johns River State College Testing Center provides a convenient testing environment for students, community and faculty. We are available, by appointment for credit-by exam, distance learning for other institutions and workforce exams. Most of these exams require specific proctoring agreements and advance appointments are necessary. Students are responsible for assuring that test administration instructions are submitted to the testing center prior to taking an exam.

The fee for this service is $25.00 per test.

ProV is an online occupational licensing assessment service. ProV offers hundreds of licensing examinations. SJR State proctors these exams on the Palatka campus on Tuesday and on the Orange Park campus on Tuesday. Fees vary and all scheduling and payments are made through

TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education), this exam is used as an assessment tool for students entering an Adult Basic Education program that leads to a GED (General Equivalence Diploma), as well as, many Career and Technical Education programs. Some businesses also use the assessment for prospective employees. The latest version of TABE is long and it is recommended to complete the test in two separate sessions.

This exam is administered by appointment and may require two days of testing. Typically, the exam is given on Tuesday and Thursday on the Palatka Campus.

The cost is $35 and must be paid prior to scheduling an appointment.
